Weekly Update

I have been truly impressed today by the pupils’ calmness as West Chinnock transitioned to Norton school for the week. Thank you to staff for their adaptability and to everyone who has offered support and encouragement. We will keep you informed as the situation progresses. We look forward to welcoming parents this week to the Awards Assembly which is on Thursday 8th February at 9.00am in the school hall. With Shrove Tuesday falling the week of half-term, we are delighted to be able to celebrate this at school a week early with our fabulous FONS providing pancakes at the end of the day on Friday 9th February. Last week, Willow Class shared special memories as they build an understanding of past, present and future. Scientists in Birch Class investigated leaves, observing them closely and drawing diagrams before recording their observations. Hazel Class Artists have been learning how to work with clay to make ‘Bankura Horses’ as part of their art project ‘Animal’ which teaches them about the historical and cultural portrayal of animals. Meanwhile, Rowan class continue to explore the Kingdom of Benin and the initial relationship between Spain, Portugal and Africa and continue to be engaged by their Science work on the circulatory system as they learn about the function of blood. It’s Safer Internet Day this week (Tuesday 6th February 2024) and we continue to raise awareness of how to stay safe online and promoting this year’s slogan of “Together for a better internet”. As parents you play a crucial role in empowering and supporting children to use technologies responsibly, respectfully, critically and creatively. One way to help keep children safe is to set up parental controls which allow you to block and filter upsetting or inappropriate content. They work across your WiFi, phone network, individual apps and devices. For more information please see this helpful webpage from the NSPCC. Have a successful week – we will see you back at school on Monday 19th February. Mr Caswell
