Weekly Update

I have been truly impressed today by the pupils’ calmness as West Chinnock transitioned to Norton school for the week. Thank you to staff for their adaptability and to everyone who has offered support and encouragement. We will keep you informed as the situation progresses. West Chinnock pupils are welcome to attend Early Bird club this week at Norton and clubs will continue as per normal timings. If you have any questions or queries, please do get in touch. We look forward to welcoming parents to the Awards Assembly which is on Friday 9th February at 2.45pm which will now be held in the Norton school hall. This will be an event for West Chinnock pupils and parents. With Shrove Tuesday falling the week of half-term, we are delighted to be able to celebrate a week early with our fabulous PFA providing pancakes for West Chinnock pupils from 8.30am tomorrow, Tuesday 6th February. This event will continue and take place at Norton school. Last week, Scientists in Acorn class investigated leaves, observing them closely and drawing diagrams before recording their observations. Year 2 have been getting a better understanding of money, using different coins to make amounts. I had an interesting discussion with them about the cost of everyday items with estimates on the price of bread varying from £1 to £30!! Meanwhile, Oak class continue to explore the Kingdom of Benin and the initial relationship between Spain, Portugal and Africa. Year 5 & 6 continue to be engaged by their Science work on the circulatory system as they learn about the function of blood. It’s Safer Internet Day this week (Tuesday 6th February 2024) and we continue to raise awareness of how to stay safe online and promoting this year’s slogan of “Together for a better internet”. As parents you play a crucial role in empowering and supporting children to use technologies responsibly, respectfully, critically and creatively. One way to help keep children safe is to set up parental controls which allow you to block and filter upsetting or inappropriate content. They work across your WiFi, phone network, individual apps and devices. For more information please see this helpful webpage from the NSPCC. Have a successful week – we will see you back at school (hopefully West Chinnock) on Monday 19th February. Mr Caswell
